Build Notes

B1 Battle Droid Build

This B1 Battle Droid 3d print came from the Droid Division files. It features the Droid Vocalizer Classic for authentic sound effects, including the signature “Roger Roger” and other B1 voice lines.

Printing and Finishing

The entire droid was printed in PETG. PETG provided better durability and heat resistance than PLA.

Surface finishing followed a multi-stage process:

  • Acetone wipe-down to soften print lines and improve filler adhesion
  • Bondo 907 glazing putty for seam filling and print defect correction
  • UPOL filler primer for high-build surface preparation
  • Progressive sanding through 220, 600, and 800 grit

I wanted the droid to look factor new, so I tried to get the prints as smooth as possible.

Paint Scheme

After testing numerous colors and comparing them against reference photos from the movies, I settled on Sahara Beige Montana spray paint. This stuff is awesome to work with. Goes on smooth and dries really fast.

Main Body

This became the primary body color and closely matched the appearance seen on screen.

Sound Setup

The Droid Vocalizer Classic is mounted inside the back cavity. The IR sensor is positioned in the middle section where the droid rotates. The setup allows for easy triggering of sound effects from the remote controller.
